Tagebau project started
ProjectsTagebauFundingThe Tagebau project aims to support structural change in former coal mining areas. A UAS prototype will be developed that can autonomously carry out surveys and, with the help of AI, enable volume estimation without complex post-processing. This is expected to reduce the long waiting times and lengthy approval processes for the use of drones in such areas.
The project will receive a six-digit financial support by the BMDV. The project will focus on the selection and evaluation of survey sensor technology with an optimized payload. The sensor technology will then be integrated into a specially developed UAS. At the same time, algorithms will be developed and tested to enable automated processing of the survey data and AI-assisted volume estimation. The goal is to create a best practice solution that will facilitate the permitting process for drone operations in former coal mining areas.
The collected geodata will serve as a basis for further research projects in the area of former opencast coal mining.
